As a child, I was drawn to writing and art, and they have been part of my life ever since. At Yale, I majored in American Studies and studied literature and art history. I then earned a Master's in broadcast journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Since then, I've worked as a writer, promoter, and photographer. Because I was formally trained as a journalist, I shoot my photographs with the story in mind. I love to get out into the field to capture a subject on camera, whether its families, dogs, nature, or all three! Spontaneity, emotion, essence and story all shine through when everyone is relaxed in a natural setting.
When my children were very young, I realized that it was difficult to capture these elements in someone else's studio setting, and that's why I began to pursue my own style of portrait photography. Time and again, the most simple moments became the greatest works of art for me. Soon, I began to see in my own pictures -- taken out and about in the world -- the unfolding of my kids' little personalities, their quirks, their vulnerability, their bliss. So today, that's what I pursue through my lens. I look for the little things, like wiggly little toes in the grass, a secret shared with a smile, a walk together down a long road. Like photographer Aaron Siskind once said, "Photography remembers the little things, long after you've forgotten everything." That's what I want to capture for you.
Thank you for your interest. I would be honored to work with you!
