About the author:Catharine Gately Handfelt, creator, writer, and photographer of the successful "100 Hounds of Kirkland" project, studied literature and art history at Yale University and earned her Master's degree in broadcast journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism. Catharine enjoys storytelling that touches the heart and, as a devoted dog rescuer, is especially inspired when capturing the essence of human-canine relationships through her lens. She is the owner of Little Monarch Studios, specializing in on-location, natural-light photography of children, families, and, of course, dogs. In her free time, Catharine loves to hit the road with her family and her camera for a great adventure, especially when her dogs are along for the ride. She lives in Kirkland, Washington, with her husband, their two children, their two Wheaten Terriers, Barkley and Roxy, and a new, not-so-little German Shepherd puppy named Oskar. |
Support the Seattle Humane Society:"Cathy's wonderful photographs capture dogs as beloved family members and companions in our lives -- and so much more," said Brenda Barnette, Chief Executive Officer of the Seattle Humane Society, which in the last year alone placed 6,091 animals. "Thanks to the '100 Hounds of Kirkland' project and local animal lovers, thousands have been raised to help the Seattle Humane Society care for orphaned, stray and abandoned pets in our community. We are very grateful for the support." -Brenda Barnette, CEO of the Seattle Humane Society "100 Hounds of Kirkland is one of those exciting projects that starts small and soon takes on a life of its own," said Cultivate Books' Beth Farrell. "Cathy's '100 Hounds' concept, her beautiful photography, the community participation, the owners' love for their pets, and the benefit to the Seattle Humane Society and less fortunate animals began in Kirkland and could easily move across the country or across the world. Los Angeles, New York, Paris -- there are no boundaries when capturing just what makes a dog a man's or a woman's best friend." -Beth Farrell, Cultivate Books |
